PrEP is a medication that can be taken to prevent contracting HIV. It’s over 92% effective in preventing HIV when taken every day and can be used by anyone who is having sex regardless of their sexual identity (male, female, transgender, non-binary, etc.) and sexual orientation (heterosexual, bisexual, gay, etc.). It can also be used by people who inject drugs and pregnant women. PrEP’s sole purpose is to prevent HIV. It cannot cure HIV, protect you from contracting other sexually transmitted infections (STIs), or prevent pregnancy.
