Throughout the month of March, we celebrate National Nutrition Month with the theme “Fuel for the Future.” The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics recognizes Registered Dietitians (RDs) and nutritionists as the food and nutrition experts who provide counseling on nutrition related issues and healthy eating habits to promote health and manage disease. Dietitians and nutritionists work in various settings, such as health care centers, businesses, schools and other community and public health settings. Mary’s Center provides several opportunities to meet with these nutrition experts who are conveniently located in WIC program offices, medical clinics, and in the senior wellness centers.
The dietitians and nutritionists at the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program provide nutrition education and counseling for eligible parties that live within the District of Columbia. Throughout the yearly certification, WIC participants will receive nutrition education and individual counseling up to four times per year. The RDs and nutritionists can help create meal plans designed to support the WIC food package. Nutritionists at the WIC program can connect breastfeeding women with lactation support to help families reach their nutrition and breastfeeding goals.
For seniors 60 years and over, the nutrition counselors at Mary’s Center Senior Wellness centers take an integrated approach to help older adults maintain overall health through one-on-one counseling, group classes, and cooking demonstrations. Assistance is provided for access to Farmer’s Markets, and to fresh produce through supplemental food programs.
Throughout the life cycle, Mary’s Center is here to support you and your family to better health through innovative information and healthy food choices. From birth to five years old, the WIC program encourages balanced diets and makes healthy food options available within your family’s budget. As you and your family grow, Mary’s Center nutritionists provide continued assistance through individual and group counseling. Mary’s Center dietitians and nutritionists are here to help you Fuel for the Future!
