The goal is to improve emotional well-being of older adults experiencing loneliness through social connection. We’re looking for individuals who are 60+ over who’d like to help fellow seniors in their wards.
Mary’s Center participates in community events throughout the different wards of DC. We’d love to have volunteer support in engaging with community members. This opportunity entails setting up, recruiting new participants, answering questions about Mary’s Center, helping people making appointments, handing out swag and playing activities. Community events mostly happen on the weekends during summer months, making it a great opportunity for enthusiastic and outgoing volunteers with weekend availability.
Every year, Mary’s Center has two end of year Holiday events to support our families who might need a little more help around the Holidays. Our Thanksgiving Bag Stuffing Event ensures that hundreds of families receive a warm Thanksgiving meal. Soon after is the Participant Holiday Party and we are calling all our Holiday Elves be part of the fun!
Mary’s Center accepts gently-worn clothing, shoes, and baby supplies to give to our participants. We have a continuous and bountiful stream of donations through our generous donors. Volunteers are needed to help us sort through and organizing donations to ensure that our participants have the best to choose from. This task is best for volunteers with weekday availability.
Mary’s Center has three large events every year, the Golf Classic, Taste of Adams Morgan, and Annual Gala. The events are vital for raising critical funds to continue providing quality care to the most underserved in our community. The volunteers are the backbone of these events, they make the event execution possible. They’re great one-time opportunities for both individuals and groups.
