The start-up costs for opening a child care business can be substantial, ranging from approximately $8,000 for a home-based to $40,000-$100,000 for a center-based, depending on the size. Through the Tender Growth Mini-grant Program, Mary's Center is able to support qualified applicants in covering some of these costs. In order to apply, applicants are first prepped and supported through business trainings, to ensure that they have the skills they need to successfully manage their business. Then, applicants are supported in the process of writing a business plan, including a cash-flow statement and marketing plan. These business plans are then submitted to a third-party committee of industry experts who help the applicants to strengthen their model and eventually vote whether or not to approve the business for funding.
