MANAGEMENT

Maria S. Gomez, RN, MPH
President and CEO

Maria S. Gomez at Noche Tropical
In 1988, Maria Gomez, and a group of other dedicated women, established Mary’s Center as a clinic to provide prenatal and post partum care for Latino women living in Ward One of the District of Columbia. Prior to founding the Center, Maria served as a public health nurse for the Washington, D.C. Department of Health; worked with the American Red Cross to direct community education programs and attended to the elderly homebound through the Visiting Nurses Association. As a nurse, she was inspired to seek innovative ways to deliver culturally and linguistically appropriate primary care health services that her community desperately needed.

Maria obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Georgetown University and a Masters degree in Public Health from the University of California, Berkeley. She currently serves as a board member to the National Council of La Raza, the Meyer Foundation and the Nonprofit Roundtable of Greater Washington. Maria and her husband, Miachel Rexrode, have been married for 18 years and are proud parents of Amalia, their 11 year old daughter.
